Preventative Care & Wellness

Proactive and Preventative Care

Our goal is to keep your companion pets healthy and happy starting with preventative care. We follow American Animal Hospital Association recommendations when it comes to preventative care. Look for links below for more information!

Annual wellness Exam and Vaccines

  • Annual wellness exams are an important way to maintain your pet’s health. Imagine if you only went to your doctor once every seven years!
  • We offer core and lifestyle based vaccines. For dogs, core vaccines are rabies and distemper combination (DAPP). For cats, core vaccines are rabies and FVRCP.
  • Lifestyle vaccines are recommended based upon your pet’s activity, exposure and risk. We are happy to discuss all lifestyle vaccines during your pet’s wellness appointment! Follow the link below for more information regarding vaccines and you pet.

Microchip Implantation

  • Microchipping a a quick and affordable way to protect you pet.

Spay and Neutering

  • In Colorado, we have the highest pet adoption rate of any other state in the country with most of these pets already being spayed or neutered. However, there are still many situations where we see unnecessary breeding and unwanted pet litters.
  • Follow the link below to help guide you in your decision regarding spaying and neutering your pet. As always, we are here to help answer any questions you may have.
  • Spay and neuter when the time is right

Baseline Blood Work

  • One of the greatest tools we can have as health care providers for your pet, is blood values taken when they’re healthy. This allows our doctors to have a comparison as your pet ages or when they have a medical issue.

Heartworm Testing and Preventative

  • With so many people and their pets moving into Colorado, we strongly recommend year round heartworm preventative and regular testing. Aspen Arbor Animal Hospital has treated two heartworm positive patients already this year!

Annual Fecal/Intestinal Parasite Testing

  • If you’ve live in Colorado and have a dog, you’ve probably heard of Giardia. There are many other parasites that thrive in the Colorado environment and can cause GI problems for your pet as well. What’s worse, some of them can be transmitted to humans! We recommend yearly parasite checks to make sure your pet is parasite free.
