September Is Senior Wellness Month!

If your dog is between the ages of six and thirteen, they may considered a Senior Pet. For cats, senior age is generally between seven and ten years. See the Age Charts below for more details.

During the month of September, Aspen Arbor Animal Hospital is offering a discounted workup for senior pets that’s over &100.00 off standard cost!

Our Senior Wellness package includes the following;

  • A Through Examination by a Veterinarian
  • Senior pet focused blood panel with 25-chemistries, CBC, Thyroid and more
  • Urinalysis
  • Two digital radiographs
  • Blood pressure readings
  • Intestinal Parasite/Fecal Exam.

The blood panel screens for diseases such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatic disease, heart disease, diabetes, Addison’s disease, Cushing’s disease, and some types of cancer. The urinalysis screens for infection, kidney disease, Cushing’s disease, diabetes, crystals in the urine, blood in the urine, and urinary bladder cancer.

With radiographs, our doctor’s look for abnormalities in the chest and/or abdomen such as stones in the kidneys, splenic disease, urinary bladder stones, liver masses, gall stones, spinal disease, lung disease, an enlarged heart, and masses.

Sometimes lab work reveals surprising changes such as urinary tract infections, high amounts of protein in the urine, high blood pressure and heart disease. Most times the changes we find can be managed well and the animal’s health status and longevity improves significantly.

A fecal exam may indicate blood in the stool, large bowel bacterial overgrowth, and/or parasitic disease.
